In the fastener forming process, cold heading technology is a main processing technology. Cold heading belongs to metal pressure processing size. In production, at room temperature, an external force is applied to the metal to form the metal in a predetermined mold. This method is usually called cold heading.
The forming of any fastener can not only be realized by a deformation method of cold heading. In the cold heading process, in addition to the upsetting deformation, it is also accompanied by positive and negative extrusion, compound extrusion, punching and extrusion. Various deformation methods such as pressure. Therefore, the term cold forging in production is just a habitual term. To be more precise, it should be called cold forging.
Cold heading has many advantages, and it is suitable for mass production of fasteners. Its main advantages are summarized in the following aspects:
a. Steel is efficient. Cold heading is a small and no cutting processing method, such as processing rod type hexagon head bolts, cylindrical head hexagon socket screws, using cutting processing methods, the steel is only 25% to 35%, and cold heading Method, its utilization rate can be as high as 85%~95%, only the material head, material tail and some process consumption of cutting hexagon head.
b. The screw is high. Compared with the general cutting processing ratio, the cold heading forming efficiency is dozens of times higher.
c. Good mechanical properties. The parts processed by cold heading method have better strength than cutting processing because the metal fibers are broken and cut.
d. Feasible automated production. Fasteners produced by suitable cold heading (extrusion) methods (including some special-shaped parts) are basically symmetrical parts, suitable for high-speed automatic heading machine production, and are also the main method of mass production.
